A short island circuit works when it admits what it is: a first-day orientation with scenic driving and brief stops. The defensible sequence crosses the west coast, a public viewpoint outside Armenistis, Ftelia Bay, Ano Mera and one southeast beach. It is not the whole island in four hours.

What the evidence supports
Driving and stop time compete with each other. A realistic short route chooses one southeast beach and treats the other places as brief orientation stops; deeper village time or a second coastline needs a longer route.

Begin with a west-coast sea view and a short orientation stop. The mapped beach point identifies the area, not a legal passenger drop, parking bay or guaranteed accessible route.

Northwest headland
Interpret the lighthouse from a separately verified public viewpoint outside its site. Armenistis began operating in 1891 after the Volta shipwreck, and its original optical mechanism is now in Chora's maritime museum. No arrival pin is published here; verify a public viewpoint outside the lighthouse site before setting out.
North-facing coast
Use the bay as landscape and archaeology context. Ftelia preserves an organised Late Neolithic settlement dated to about 5000–4500 BC, but no routine staffed, ticketed visitor operation was found for 2026.

Inland village
The village square adds inland context between the exposed coasts. Panagia Tourliani can be included only if current access is confirmed; no authoritative current public timetable was established for this guide.

Southeast coast
Choose one beach as the short route's coastal finish. Kalo Livadi is mapped here only as one option; adding both beaches meaningfully reduces village time or turns them into very brief photo stops.

Use several short walks and one chosen focus stop. It suits first-time visitors, photography and cruise passengers with a safe return buffer, not a swim or leisurely meal.
The longer version better supports meaningful Ano Mera time, two contrasting coastlines or a short swim, subject to road and access conditions.
Any visit to a stone lighthouse site requires prior special permission. Building entry must be expressly permitted and supervised, tower access is prohibited, and economic exploitation of the lighthouse visit is prohibited. The normal route should use a verified public viewpoint outside the site.
Its archaeology is important, but do not promise excavation admission, an on-site guide or a managed visitor facility.
The lighthouse headland and north-facing bay are exposed. Summer climate normals show the strongest mean wind in July and August; check the same-day forecast and be ready to drop an exposed stop.
