Delos was the religious and commercial heart of the Aegean from the 8th to the 1st century BCE. Today the uninhabited island is an open-air archaeological site protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most complete ancient cities remaining in the Mediterranean. Your guide leads you through the Agora and along the Sacred Way to the Temple of Apollo, then past the Sanctuary of Artemis and down to the Terrace of the Lions — the row of archaic marble lions that have marked the ceremonial route since the 7th century BCE. The route also takes in the ancient amphitheater before a visit to the Delos Archaeological Museum, which holds sculptures, ceramics, and everyday objects spanning the Archaic to Roman periods. The tour departs daily from the Old Port of Mykonos with hotel and port pickup included. The 30–40 minute ferry crossing each way is part of the experience. Total time on the island is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, with a short free period at the end for photography before the return ferry. The terrain on Delos is uneven stone and compacted earth throughout. Comfortable, closed footwear is strongly recommended. The site is largely exposed with no shade, so a hat and sunscreen are essential, particularly in summer. Note that entrance fees to the archaeological site and museum (€20 per person) are not included in the tour price and are paid separately on arrival.
