Mageireio, no sign, since the 1880s · Sokratous and Theatrou, Central Market
The most famous secret in Athens: an unmarked basement cook-shop by the central market where you descend through cellar doors, share a table, and eat five or six home-style dishes a day with wine from the barrel. It is discovered now and the odd bill runs high, so go for the ritual as much as the food.
Suggested: revithia (chickpeas), the daily stew, barrel retsina
