Menalon Mountain lies in the heart of the Peloponnese and is one of the greenest regions in southern Greece. Dense fir forests, deep gorges, stone villages, and quiet mountain roads shape a landscape closely linked to nature and traditional life.
Long known as the land of Pan and Hermes, Menalon has always been associated with shepherds, wanderers, and a peaceful, pastoral way of life, where humans and nature coexist in balance. Even today, the area feels calm, authentic, and largely untouched.
Cycling here is a pleasure. Quiet mountain roads and forest tracks, long stretches of shade, cool air, and light traffic create ideal riding conditions, while e-bikes make it possible to explore Menalon’s forests comfortably, following the mountain’s natural rhythm of climbs and descents.
We meet in Stemnitsa, one of the Peloponnese’s most beautiful stone villages, built above the Lousios Gorge. After a warm welcome, bike setup, and safety briefing, we begin our ride.
The route follows quiet mountain roads and forest tracks, climbing gradually beneath a dense canopy of fir trees. Thanks to the e-bikes, the ascents feel smooth and manageable, allowing you to enjoy the forest, the scent of pine, and the cool mountain air without effort.
As we ride deeper into Menalon, the world slows down. You will encounter shepherds with their flocks, hear bells echo softly through the trees, and pass open clearings where time seems to pause. This is a ride defined by continuous forest immersion, silence, and space.
Our destination is Libovisi, the birthplace of heroes of Greek Independence War, a remote stone village hidden deep in the heart of Menalon. Isolated, authentic, and rarely visited, Libovisi feels suspended in time. Here, in a place few ever reach without e-bikes, we enjoy a homemade picnic with fresh, traditional flavors, surrounded by cool mountain air and stillness.
We then follow the route back through the forest, experiencing new light, new sounds, and that rare feeling of having truly entered a landscape rather than simply crossed it.
